Day 8: Best Friend Now

I could cheat. I can say my hubby is my best friend. Which he is, but, I’ve already written about him in the challenge.

What is a Friend?

  1. a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.
  2. a person who gives assistance; patron; supporter:

Ex. friends of the Boston Symphony.

  1. a person who is on good terms with another; a person who is not hostile:

Ex. Who goes there? Friend or foe?

That makes me laugh. Attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard!?!?!

I would define it to mean people who know all your “stuff” and they still like you. It means people who are with you through all the good times AND the bad times. NOT just the good times. They are with you through the hard times, the difficult times, the you have no idea times. You raise your kids together and agree AND disagree times.

Friends are the ones who can laugh while they are making fun of you, because you know it’s true. Said by someone else, and you go ballistic. Friends are the ones with a no holds barred sign hanging on every conversation. They are your confessional. They are the sieve of stupid ideas. Friends are the ones you can talk to for hours and not remember if you solved a problem, discussed the news or solved world peace, but you knew you laughed, you cried, you snorted.

There are friends and then there are acquaintances. Friends are the ones you can call at bedtime or in the middle of the night. Friends are the ones who know your schedule, when not to call. Friends are also the ones you will pick up the phone during important times because you know they know your schedule.

I’m not calling out my BFFs. I hope you know who you are. There are BFFs that will go with you to Atlanta to sing in front of the whole Southern Baptist Convention and color hair together and make fun of each other’s children. There are BFFs you homeschool together for years and rely on them, and call them sisters and laugh and cry together and talk for hours and pick back up where you left off after not talking for days or weeks and there’s always MAD LIBS and farts. There are BFFs who will come clean your kitchen and help you pack and share their Chauteau de Boxe in the driveway. There are BFFs that you spend hours on the phone with solving all the problems of the world and she knows your stuff and comforts you and you can say stupid stuff and laugh and cry and raise boys together. There are BFFs who take you under their wing and show you marvels of creativity you never knew existed and share and grow together in a world bigger than themselves.

Mileage. Baggage. Tears. Laughter.

Ladies, if you are reading this, you know who you are. I love you DEARLY!
